Mt Mansell (More Hiking)

As it turned out a friend from Boston was also up in Acadia. His family has a house up there and he knows the island like the back of his hand.

We let him pick a hike and he picked Mt Mansell. It was a good hike right along Long Pond.
It was a pretty clear day and you could see down to various harbors around the island. There were some low clouds but they really added to the view.

For July it wasn't really very hot or humid making it a very comfortable day for hiking.

I spotted a snake attempting to eat a frog which was puffing up and fighting for its life. I'll spare you the blurry pictures...

As and added bonus Long Pond was a great place to go swimming. And after a hike to the peak and back we needed a little cooling off.

We had a snack and swam from a big rock, not the one in this picture, this was actually across the pond from where we swam. The water was kind of freezing but you got used to it.

No hike would be complete without some ice cream after. We hit our favorite Ice Cream place in town for the third time! We also walked around town a bit but after two long hikes in a row our legs were a bit tired.

Time for a hike!

After making some coffee and breakfast we took a longer walk around the entire campground and down to the water as well.

These rocks looked really cool with the mountains behind them. Later today we'd be hiking one of those mountains!

Waking up in the trailer is so much better than a hotel!

This campground has a lot of spots for big rigs, this was a "friend" Maxwell made on the walk. Actually there were a lot of other dogs around the campground.

Campground people seem to be very friendly and nice, maybe it is because they are all on vacation.

Max is tool old for the hike we will be taking but he seem to feel at home in the trailer.

We hiked Acadia mountain, it isn't the biggest peak here, but it was a beautiful hike.

On a trip years ago (tent camping) we stayed in the National Park and climbed Cadillac Mountain the highest and most popular peak.

The views were stunning, and we enjoy lunch at the peak.

We aren't really roughing it much this trip, we have full hookups and are eating out almost once a day.

After some downtime we set off to town for some dinner.

Maine day 2

Aaah nothing like waking on a beautiful day and taking the dog for a walk around a campground. Specially a campground right on the ocean with views like this.

Maxwell my dog seems to really like campgrounds, no mystery it is probably the smell of hundreds of people's meals.

Fridays are my work at home day and since I was low on vacation days I didn't take it off. The campground had WiFi but it proved to be horrible slow and at times I believe hacked into. As a second resort I signed up for tethering and used my iPhone and AT&T 3G for the internet. It actually faster and a lot more reliable than the WiFi at the campground.

It hardly seemed like working sitting outside under the trailers awning typing away.

After a half day of work we went into Bar Harbor for some lunch and a walk. We've been here before so we hit some of the places we liked before and checked out some new places.

Then is was back to work for a little while.

Next Destination Maine

OK time for a real trip.  I am not counting the initial pickup since we only went one-way trailer. For this trip we are a little more prepared and have some additional equipment with us.

Where to? Acadia National Park in Maine. While on the trip to NJ to pickup the trailer I made reservation for 4 nights at the Narrows Too Campground in Trenton ME. It is across the causeway from Acadia NP but it is right on the water and had openings most importantly.

We packed and hitched the trailer after work (Thursday) and set out for a nice long weekend.

Here is nice picture of the truck and trailer at a rest area. It is really strange how sometimes the trailer looks bigger and sometimes it looks smaller.

I think it looks big in this picture.

We got in on the late side after the four-plus hour drive. Luckily we still had enough time to get settled before it got dark.

We didn't splurge for a site on the water but we were only 3 sites away from the water (for 1/2 the price).

The site was actually one of the larger ones which is really helpful for trailer backing up novices! It was also very level the trailer was parked and camp was setup in no time.

Here is one of the pieces new equipment! A Weber Smokey Joe Silver Charcoal Grill, it was the first thing we setup as we were hungry for Dinner.

It is just about the right size. I own a full-size Weber but that would be too much to haul along with us. We probably need to find a propane grill option as well to make sure we can cook outdoors even when there are fire restrictions.

Our site was missing a fire ring, but we later stole one from an empty site.
